Objective: Analyze the roles and policies of various Civil War leaders and describe the important Civil War battles and events; review key terms, laws, and ideas of the Civil War Era

Outcome: Civil War Final Project
Agenda:
1. Review the requirements of the Civil War final project.
2. Students will continue working on their project. Projects are due on Friday at the end of class.
Homework: Read and highlight Chapter 11 Section 4 “The North Takes Charge” in your textbook and create Cornell Notes on page 57. Due Friday.
**REMINDER** E-Portfolios are due on Friday, June 8. You will have some time in class next week to complete it, but you should be working on it now as well! Don’t know what is required for history? Download the e-portfolio requirements.
Tuesday, 05/29/07: Civil War *Final* Project (Day 1)
Civil War Final Project (Day 1)
Objective: Describe the important Civil War battles and events, including the Massachusetts 54th Regiment and the Battle at Fort Wagner.
Tech Objective: None
Outcome: Glory Worksheet and Civil War Project
Agenda:
1. Finish last 15 minutes of Glory, the movie. Students must complete all questions on the Glory movie guide and discussion questions by tomorrow.
2. Explain the Civil War final project (last project of the year!)
3. Students may choose their project and begin working independently. Projects are due on Friday at the end of class.
Homework: *Glory worksheet is due tomorrow! Read and highlight Chapter 11 Section 4 “The North Takes Charge” in your textbook and create Cornell Notes on page 57. Due Friday.

Outcome: Begin working on the History Page of your e-portfolio
Agenda: Students will work on their end-of-year e-portfolios, specifically on their History Page (download e-portfolio requirements).

Objective: Describe the important Civil War battles and events, including the Massachusetts 54th Regiment and the Battle at Fort Wagner.

Outcome: Gettysburg Address translation worksheet
Agenda:
1. Do Now: Check this week’s homework; staple the Gettysburg Address translation worksheet to page 58 in your notebook.
2. Listen to the “Gettysburg Address,” as read by Jeff Daniels.
3. In pairs, translate the 10 lines of the address into plain English using your Gettysburg Address translation worksheet; followed by a class discussion.

Civil War Letters (Day 2)
Objective: Describe the important Civil War battles and events and discuss civilian/soldier life during the Civil War.
Tech Objective: PowerPoint
Outcome: Short PowerPoint (in pairs)
Agenda:
1. Students will present their SOAPSTone PowerPoints for the Civil War soldiers letter they read yesterday.
2. As a class, we will read aloud letters from the Vietnam War and the War in Iraq and complete a three circle Venn diagram to discuss both the differences between letters and also the timeless themes of soldiers’ experiences.
Homework: Read and highlight Chapter 11 Section 1 and 2 “The Civil War” in your textbook and create Cornell Notes on page 55.

Objective: Describe the important Civil War battles and events and discuss civilian/soldier life during the Civil War.
Tech Objective: PowerPoint
Outcome: Short PowerPoint (in pairs)
Agenda:
1. Students will be given an authentic soldiers letter from the Civil War.
2. In pairs, students will read the assigned letter and create a SOAPSTone in PowerPoint.
3. Students will present their letters tomorrow, and as a class we will compare them to more recent soldiers’ letters from the Vietnam War and the War in Iraq.
Homework: Read and highlight Chapter 11 Section 1 and 2 “The Civil War” in your textbook and create Cornell Notes on page 55.
